No fix for eavesdropping law

“Fifteen years in prison for recording a police officer with a cellphone: It’s not just goofy, it’s unconstitutional. But it’s the law in Illinois, and it looks like it’s going to stay that way for now, because a measure that would have corrected it was stuffed in a Senate committee.

The Illinois House in May passed a measure sponsored by Rep. Elaine Nekritz, D-Northbrook, that would amend the state’s eavesdropping law to allow citizens to make audio recordings of police officers performing their duties in public. The vote was 71-45”
