Illinois Nurses Endorse Elaine Nekritz in the 57th House District

The political action committees of the American Nurses Association – Illinois (ANA-Illinois) and Illinois Society of Advanced Practice Nurses (ISAPN) jointly have endorsed Elaine Nekritz for election to the Illinois General Assembly on November 6, 2012.

There are over 160,000 Registered Nurses (RNs) and Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs) in Illinois. ANA-Illinois represents RNs in legislative and regulatory issues. ISAPN represents the State’s 7000 APNs, including Certified Nurse Practitioners, Certified Nurse Midwives, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists and Certified Clinical Nurse Specialists.

“Nursing has taken a more proactive approach to the campaign season this year,” said Karen Kelly, President of ANA-Illinois. “We believe it is critical to elect candidates like Elaine Nekritz that are dedicated to strengthening our healthcare system.”

Nursing endorsed those candidates who have shown a commitment ot sound regulatory and public health policies and that acknowledge the important role of RNs and APNs in providing healthcare services to the people of Illinois.

The decisions to endorse candidates were based on reviews of incumbent voting records as well as candidate responses to the 2012 Nursing Questionnaire and, in many cases, interviews between candidates and nurses themselves.

“There are 1171 registered nurses and advanced practice nurses in the 57th House district. If nurses vote as a united group, we have the ability to effectively impact who will represent us in Illinois government,” said Marie Lindsey, Chairwoman of the ISAPN-PAC.
