Planned Parenthood Illinois Action Announces Political Endorsements
Elaine Nekritz Endorsed in 57th Illinois House Race

CHICAGO, IL – Planned Parenthood Illinois Action (PPIA), the non-partisan political and advocacy arm of Planned Parenthood of Illinois, today announced endorsements for the November 6th election. PPIA made clear that there is only one choice in the 57th House District: Elaine Nekritz.

“Elaine Nekritz was endorsed by Planned Parenthood Illinois Action because she knows that women don’t turn to politicians for advice about birth control, mammograms, or cancer screenings,” said Carole Brite, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood Illinois Action. “Elaine Nekritz believes that government should not be involved in a woman’s personal medical decisions.”

PPIA believes that a candidate’s record is a true measure of his or her positions when it comes to women’s health care. As a state representative, Elaine Nekritz has a perfect voting record when it comes to Planned Parenthood issues. In 2003, Rep. Nekritz co-sponsored the Illinois Contraceptive Coverage Law which guarantees Illinois women birth control coverage in private insurance plans. In addition, she supports age-appropriate, medically accurate, and complete sex education. Moreover, Rep. Nekritz has voted against dangerous restrictions on abortion.

“Elaine Nekritz hasn’t been just a vote for women’s health care as a representative. She has been a voice for the women of Illinois. She has a proven record of leadership in defending access to reproductive health care,” Said Brite. “The women of Illinois can rely on Elaine Nekritz to be there when they need her.”

To the contrary, Nekritz’s opponent, Republican Jonathan Greenberg, failed to return a PPIA questionnaire which was sent to him on two occasions. Moreover, he never approached PPIA for endorsement.

“Unlike her opponent, Elaine Nekritz didn’t wait until a few weeks prior to an election to make her positions known,” commented Brite. “She has been clear in supporting women since she first ran for office ten years ago.

“Seeing the repeated attacks on women’s healthcare in in the past two years, we know the importance of electing candidates who support access to reproductive healthcare, including birth control and abortion services,” said Carole Brite. “It is essential that we elect candidates like Elaine Nekritz who we know will stand up for women, no matter what.”

All pro-choice/pro-Planned Parenthood incumbents receive an endorsement regardless of the position of the opponent.

PPIA engages in educational and electoral activity, including public education campaigns, grassroots organizing and legislative advocacy on behalf of commonsense policies that protect the reproductive health and rights of women, teens and families.
